Regular Events

The Finlandia Society of Calgary (FSoC) organizes several regular events on a monthly basis.

Club Days:

Club Days are by far the single most important event organized by the FSoC. They are held once a month on Sunday afternoons at the Scandinavian Centre (739 - 20th Avenue N.W., Valhalla Room). Club Days start at 4:30 pm with a conversation corner, reading of finnish newspapers and listening music by the Singing Group (see below). A catered supper ($7., incl. coffee) and coffee ($2.50) will be served at 5 pm. The supper is followed by a Finnish movie at around 6 pm. Club Days usually end between 8 and 9 pm, depending on the duration of the movie. It is easy to believe that the Club Days are the best way to meet other Finns in Calgary. So come and join us on our next Club Day!

Singing Group:

The FSoC has a Singing Group which practices and performs mostly Finnish classic pieces and seasonal songs. Singing practices are held twice a month (on Sundays) at 3:00-4:30 pm at the Scandinavian Centre (Valhalla Room). Request more information from our contact persons.

Little Finns:

Our kids club Little Finns is held twice a month at the Scandinavian Centre between 2:30 and 4:30 pm. The club is aimed for kids from 4 to 12 years who have a previous knowledge of Finnish language as it is the primary language of the club. The club’s program includes singing, storytelling, drawing, arts and crafts, games… Everything that kids love to do! For more information, contact the club's coordinators.

Language Courses:

Finnish langue classes (at different skill levels) start every fall and winter term. The classes are held once a  week and the lessons are for 8-10 weeks. There is a non-refundable fee of $40 per class taken. Books for the class cost $75. If you have a desire to learn or improve your Finnish, do not hesitate to contact the teacher for further information about next available courses.

Ladies Nights:

Ladies Nights are planned and done by the ladies social group. They are held at approximately once a moth basis. The last year's program included several interesting activities including a workshop on Alexander technique, knitting and mending nights, cooking and hiking.
