Who can join?

Anyone! It doesn't matter whether you are a first or a fifth generation Finn. In fact, some of our members have no Finnish blood in their family. If you are interested in the Finnish culture or just want to see Finnish movies, then the Finlandia Society of Calgary (FSoC) is the right place for you!

 

 

How can I become a member?

It is very easy to become a member. Just contact the President either at a Club Day of by e-mail.

How much does the membership cost? How is the money used?

Currently the membership fee is $10 per year per person. However, the whole family joins to the club with just $20! All membership revenues are used 100% to finance the events organized by the FSoC.

 

 

How does the membership benefit me?

In many ways. First of all, you will receive the FSoC's newsletter four times a year. All members in good standing are entitled to a free e-mail account at finlandiacalgary.org (see below). Members also get a discount on some events like the Christmas Dinner and Karaoke Night. In addition, only members are able to borrow Finnish material (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) from the library at the Scandinavian Centre.

 

 

Where do the events take place?

A majority of the monthly and other events take place at the Scandinavian Centre, 739 - 20th Avenue N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2M 1E2. Most of the other events take place at individual homes.

 

 

What activities the FSoC organizes?

In addition to the annual general meetings, the FSoC offers a whole bunch of different activities for members of different ages. Please see the Regular Events and Other Events sections for more information. We also encourage members to come up with other ideas for activities. You can express your opinion regarding on different activities by dropping a note to the mailbox at the Scandinavian Centre (downstairs). Remember, the more we know the more we can do!

 

 

What is the e-mail account that the FSoC offers?

The e-mail accounts offered by FSoC are full POP3/SMTP accounts that can also be accessed via the web. To request a FSoC e-mail account, please send a private e-mail message to our Webmaster. In the message, include your username and a password (you are free to choose any username within reason). Once the account is set up, you will receive an e-mail to your old e-mail address confirming the username and the password. If you don't currently own an e-mail account, please contact Webmaster by phone to set up your finlandiacalgary.org e-mail.

 

 

To whom should I send my new address?

You can send your new contact information to our Secretary. Remember, it is very important  that you keep your contact information up to date!
